    Was Last Byron Twp. Survivor of Civil War

    Calvin W. Winchester, 95 years old, the last surviving Civil War vetera n from Byron township, died Thursday at his residence in Allegan.

    He was the youngest son of Laaden and Chrisy Winchester, born in Cuyahog a county, Ohio, June 20 1837.

    With his parents he came to Michigan in the spring of 1854 and settled i n Byron township, where he made his home until 1915, when he moved to Al legan.

    On July 31, 1859, he was married to Cleona E. Terrell, who died Oct. 21 , 1914. To them were born nine children, six of whom survive: Inis A. Le tt, Plainwell; Roy A. Winchester, Kalamazoo, Ethel W. Gibbons, New York ; Wylie J. Winchester, Detroit; Dora W. Aldrich and L. A. Winchester, Gr and Rapids.

    In 1884, he was ordained as a minister of the gospel in the Church of Go d, and retained his membership in that church until his death.

    He served in the Civil war with the first Michigan engineers and mechani cs.
